The goal ultimately is to offer an entire line of apparel manufactured in the good ole’ US of A. We currently make the t-shirt collection, including the viscose from bamboo/organic cotton tees that we are known for, the hat collection and now some of our knits all in Los Angeles. Arbor is well on its way to being a completely domestic producer of eco-friendly apparel.

Arbor Snowboards is proud to welcome Curtis Woodman to their snowboard team. Woodman was born in Sacramento, California and currently resides in Truckee, California. “I’ve been a Curtis Woodman fan since the Neoproto days and I’m fired up to be working with him now,” says Arbor team director, Brad Farmer. “Curtis has a snowboarding ability and style that most can only dream of. If last season is any indication of where he’s headed, it’s going to be exciting to watch over the next couple of years. I believe he will be an amazing leader of the Arbor ‘Roots’ snowboard program and I can’t wait to see what he does in the backcountry this season.”

“I have honestly heard that I should ride for Arbor more times than I can count and I feel blessed to be a part of such an amazing family of snowboarders,” says Woodman. “Arbor is raw and environmentally friendly, what else could I want from a brand?” Curtis is a big fan of Arbor’s traditional wood topsheet look. “There’s nothing better than looking down at a beautiful piece of wood underneath your feet. I like being in my element on my Arbor Element snowboard.”
Look for Woodman to be filming for a major film project this coming season. He will be riding Arbor’s Blacklist, Draft and Element RX snowboards as well as spending a season testing the Arbor Abacus splitboard that’s due to be released in 2013.

In the first installment of the 2011 Get Elevated Series, the Arbor Skateboards team including James Kelly, Kody Noble, Max Myers, Eric Singer, Jimmy Riha and Duke Degen meet up at the Skate House in Los Angeles before heading Northeast into the Sierras. After a long drive and by sheer serendipity, they find a driving guide which leads to a road nestled in the mountain range nearby. Turns out the pavement is super burly with huge cracks across the road the entire way down. After the impromptu session is over, the team rests their heads in Mammoth Lakes in preparation to skate the area the following day. Days 2 and 3 will be featured in the in episode of the Get Elevated Tour.

In the middle of August this year, the Arbor Skateboard team stepped out into the Sierra mountains with a common purpose. The idea behind the project was simple and ambitious, trek into the wilderness, and skate roads we’ve never skated before. The thrill was in the hunt, and the end product is indicative and inclusive of much more than our primary vision; it encapsulates what life is like on the road for us, outside of racing and competition, where the only concern was having fun with our friends. The trip was about the team, the locations, the lifestyle, but more than anything, it was about skateboarding.

Arbor Get Elevated

We put in the research and the time to find roads on maps, but had no idea what we’d be met with once we set foot on the pavement. There was no assurance of good surfaces, places to sleep, safe conditions, or cell phone service. We were on our own in foreign territory, and the only assurance we had was a drop in elevation.

For a week we woke up at the butt crack of dawn, tried to catch fish, slept in the cold, lost our way, got stuck on top of giant boulders, and skated some of the most unbelievable roads I’ve ever seen. People went down at 50 mph plus, and countless bystanders and tourists gawked as we trudged up and flew down the hills to get our shots. The end product is something we’re proud of and illustrates our passion for skateboarding.

It is our pleasure to offer you the teaser of Arbor Skateboard’s 2011 Get Elevated Tour.

Saturday Oct. 8th before the “THROTTLED” event, all of the bike builders, Ray Gordon, and friends took a little ride through downtown Los Angeles.
We even dipped into the LA river for a little mayhem. The river bed proved to be a little slick with algae, but was good for getting sketchy. We stopped by Villan’s Tavern for a couple beers and food, then headed back to the event space to get ready for the evening’s event.

Ray Gordon didn’t have his bike with him so we loaned him a dirtbike! Like a champ, he accepted and had the most post-apocalyptic/Mad Max time of his life! Through tunnels, busy intersections, Occupy LA protesters, LAPD, and the grimy LA river, Ray was smiling ear to ear poppin’ wheelies, jumpin’ curbs, and having a blast.

“Never in my life did I think I’d ever be riding a dirt bike through downtown LA!” -Ray Gordon

After the ride we went back to the event space where the show was being held and started to prep for the evening. Everyone got their bikes in order. We got all the PBR’s on ice in a kiddy pool, and we started up the grill. We had a bunch of COMUNE/Ray Gordon tee shirts and mechanic rags to give away. The place was looking clean and proper. We were ready for the crowd to start rolling in.

The doors officially opened at 7 pm but people had already been showing up early to check out Ray’s photography as well as ten custom motorcycles on display. Ray’s huge macho prints were a collection of photos from the past decade of bikes, hot rods, hot girls, and partied out dudes. These are all the subject matter of “Throttled.” Nearly all of the photos are shot in the Pacific Northwest and Ray’s hometown of Portland. OR.

What draws people to Ray’s photos is that he captures people from all walks of life interested in bikes, cars, and the lifestyle that accompanies them. Ray has a passion for all things petroleum-combustion-engine related. Since he grew up in that culture he doesn’t feel like he has to document one scene of another regardless of trends. He digs it all, and has a deep respect and admiration for anyone who tinkers, cruises, or tears up the road.

Apparently Ray knows a lot of people because the place was packed to capacity. We grilled up some hot dogs and thanks to PBR we had enough cold beer to quench everyone’s thirst. At the end of the photography show Kiyo ripped a burnout inside the gallery leaving circular skid marks around the Throttled floor logo. The burnt rubber, smoke, and wild applause meant it was only time for the after-party!

We cleared everyone out of the gallery and went next door to Medusa Lounge where a dance party and chaos ensued. COMUNE/ Drop City contributors Plague Vendor performed at midnight and tore the roof off the place. After that it’s a little blurry but girls were kissing, people were dancing, and I definitely wasn’t going to be driving.

Throttled LA was hands down the best COMUNE event to date. Thanks Ray Gordon, PLG/VNDER, Pabst Blue Ribbon, all the bike builders, and all the homies at the Holding Company for helping out.

Ray Gordon’s THROTTLED presents an intimate look at people that build and celebrate traditional
hot rods and vintage motorcycles. The twenty-five or so large-scale color images tell stories of
hitting the gas and having a laugh. Gordon takes us to the places where he is at home: drag
strips, custom bike shops and secret forts where guys with grease under their fingernails seduce
beautiful girls that know better but can’t resist the promise of danger. Way more than a peek
under the hood, THROTTLED invites one and all to a way of life that’s as simple and fun as a fast
ride, good friends and a couple of beers.

THROTTLED is definitely going to be anything but your typical uptight photography show.

Ray Gordon has been a professional photographer for over one thousand years, working with all
sorts of spoiled brats, goldbrickers and filthy rich desperadoes. He’s really f*ing rad, if you’ve got
an hour, just ask him. In spite of being a tireless blowhard, he’s got a lot of great friends and an
incredible family and as you can see he takes a pretty good picture. A noisy dragstrip is one of
the few places he finds peace of mind.

Preview of images from the show available on request.
